Icons8 LLC ("we", "our", "us") operates My Passport Photo AI. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our app.

Information We Collect

Photos and Camera

• The app uses your device camera to help you take document photos.
• All photos are stored only on your device in the app's private storage area.
• Your photos are never uploaded to any server or cloud service.
• You can delete your saved photos at any time from within the app.

Face Data

The app uses Apple's built-in Vision framework to analyze your face during the camera preview. This analysis helps you take a compliant document photo by providing real-time guidance. All face analysis is performed entirely on your device.

What face data is analyzed

During the camera preview, the app detects your face in each video frame and extracts the following information:

• Face position and size - the location and dimensions of your face within the frame, used to guide you to the correct position and distance from the camera.
• Lighting level - the brightness of your face area, used to warn you if lighting is too dim or uneven for a quality photo.
• Focus quality - the sharpness of the image in the face area, used to warn you if the photo would be blurry.
• Eye openness - whether your eyes are open or closed (as a simple yes/no value), used to ensure compliance with document photo requirements that both eyes must be open.
• Facial expression - whether a smile is detected (as a simple yes/no value), used to ensure a neutral expression as required by most document photo standards.
• Head angle - the tilt of your head, used to ensure your head is straight as required by document photo standards.

The app also uses person segmentation to separate you from the background, allowing the app to replace the background with a solid color as required by document photo standards.

How face data is used

Face data is used exclusively for the following purposes:

• Displaying real-time quality indicators on the camera screen (such as "eyes closed", "face too far", "head tilted") to help you take a compliant photo.
• Determining the correct crop region so your photo meets the size and positioning requirements for the selected country and document type.
• Removing or replacing the background with a solid color.

The app does not perform facial recognition, does not create facial embeddings or biometric templates, and does not compare faces between photos. Face data is never used to identify you.

Face data retention

Face analysis data (face position, landmarks, quality metrics, segmentation masks) exists only in your device's temporary memory while the camera screen is active. It is discarded immediately after each video frame is processed and is never written to disk. When you close the camera screen, all face analysis data is released from memory. No face analysis data is stored alongside your saved photos.

Face data sharing

Face analysis data (face position, landmarks, segmentation masks) is never shared with any third party and never leaves your device. The app sends aggregated, non-identifying quality statistics (such as average brightness value, sharpness value, and simple yes/no indicators for eye openness and expression) to our analytics services for product improvement. These statistics are numerical values that cannot be used to identify any individual or reconstruct any facial features.

Usage Analytics

• We collect anonymous usage data, such as which screens are opened and which actions are taken.
• We send aggregated photo quality statistics (brightness, sharpness, and compliance check results) to our analytics services (Firebase Analytics and Amplitude) to improve the app experience. These statistics are simple numerical values and cannot identify any individual.
• No photos, face images, or biometric data are transmitted.

Advertising

• The app displays ads through third-party ad networks.
• We request your permission before personalizing ads. Ads may still be shown without personalization.
• Ad networks do not receive any photos or face data from the app.

Information We Do NOT Collect

• We do not require accounts, logins, or email addresses.
• We do not upload your photos to any server.
• We do not store biometric data, facial embeddings, or facial recognition templates.
• We do not perform facial recognition or identify users by their face.
• We do not have access to your payment information.

Sharing of Information

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. Face analysis data never leaves your device. Aggregated, non-identifying quality statistics are shared with our analytics providers (Firebase Analytics and Amplitude) solely for product improvement. Ad networks receive standard ad request data but no photos or face data from the app.

Children's Privacy

Our app is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
